Get ready for a musical showdown! The 2026 Grammy nominations are here, and it's an exciting battle between two music industry heavyweights: Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga.
The Race for Album of the Year
In a thrilling twist, Lamar's 'GNX' and Gaga's 'MAYHEM' are set to go head-to-head for the prestigious Album of the Year trophy at the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony. Both artists have been nominated multiple times in this category but have yet to claim the top honor.
But here's where it gets controversial...
While Billboard's awards editor, Paul Grein, predicts a win for Lamar, citing his potential to become the first solo male rap artist to take home the prize, he acknowledges that Gaga, beloved by all, is a formidable opponent.
A Diverse Field of Nominees
The album category showcases a diverse range of artists and genres. Alongside Lamar and Gaga, we have Bad Bunny's Spanish-language album 'Debí Tirar Más Fotos', Justin Bieber's 'Swag', and Sabrina Carpenter's 'Man's Best Friend'.
Three rap albums are also in the running: Lamar's 'GNX', Tyler, the Creator's 'Chromakopia', and 'Let God Sort Em Out' by Clipse.
And this is the part most people miss...
Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl', with its unmatched four Album of the Year wins, was ineligible due to its release date falling outside the Grammy eligibility window.
Bad Bunny's Historic Nominations
Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny, set to perform at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, has made history with six nominations, including Record, Song, and Album of the Year. He's the first Latin artist to achieve this feat in a single year.
Song of the Year: K-Pop's Rise
In the Song of the Year category, K-pop makes its mark with two nominations: 'Golden' from the 'KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack and 'APT.' by Rose and Bruno Mars. 'Golden' also received a nod for Record of the Year and best pop duo/group performance.
Rei Ami, one of the voices behind the fictional 'Demon Hunters' group, expressed her surprise and gratitude for the success of 'Golden', saying, "It's really hard for all of us to process still."
Best New Artist: A Diverse Lineup
The Best New Artist category features a diverse lineup, including Olivia Dean, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, and Alex Warren. Thomas, an R&B and soul musician, also received an Album of the Year nomination for 'Mutt'.
The winners will be chosen by the Recording Academy's 15,000 voting members and announced at the red-carpet ceremony in Los Angeles on February 1.
