French 75 co*cktail Recipe – this classic co*cktail is perfectly refreshing, citrus-y and sparkling! A fun gin co*cktail that is perfect for toasting that special occasion or just sipping at your next night out!

There is just something about a classic co*cktail. The combinations just work. You wouldn’t always think to put them together, but you do and they are delicious. A Vodka Gimlet is just 2 ingredients and so simple. But so tasty. Which is definitely the case with this French 75 co*cktail as well.

Why do they call it a French 75

Well it all dates back to World War I. It is named after the French 75 millimeter light field gun that was part of the French military. The gun was known for its portability as well as rate of fire. So I guess you could say the drink is something that is good for any occasion and packs a punch. Which it definitely does! The gin with the champagne makes it easy to make and definitely something you want to sip on.

I had never actually had this co*cktail until a few years ago. It was on a cruise and we asked the bartender for a recommendation. We got to talking and he recommended that we celebrate with this. It is the perfect balance of citrus and bubbly. If you are a fan of champagne on its own you will definitely love it. If champagne isn’t your favorite, trust me and try this! The gin and lemon juice do something magical to bring it all together and make it delicious.

So what are the French 75 Ingredients

  • Gin
  • Simple Syrup
  • Lemon Juice
  • Brut Champagne

Super simple ingredients can make for a tasty drink. The key is to use a good quality gin and a good quality champagne. That doesn’t mean you have to go buy a $50 bottle of champagne, just one you like drinking on its own works! And if you really want to get crazy, you could even use something other than gin if that isn’t your favorite. I have seen versions of this with both rum and vodka before.
